The Power Of Produce (POP) Club is a nationally recognized kids program started at the Oregon City Farmers Market in May 2011, to empower kids to make healthy food choices, introducing them to where their food comes from. Watch it in action at the Oregon City Farmers Market in the summer of 2014: http://youtu.be/JkXZATbO3Pg.
This program is now being implemented in many farmers markets across the US and in Canada.
HOW THE POP CLUB WORKS: KIDS, between the ages of 4-12 yrs :
The USDA posted about the POP Club on their blog, August 8th 2013 http://blogs.usda.gov/2013/08/08/farmers-markets-teaching-kids-where-food-comes-from/.
The Molalla Farmers Market will be starting the Power of Produce Club at our markets. This program will be very beneficial to the children of our area educationally and nutritionally. It will also help teach them where their food really comes from, as well as help them live a healthier lifestyle. There are considerable costs required to start and run this program, and we are asking for local businesses to become major sponsors for which they will be placed on the large Market banner which will be displayed at every market day. These sponsors will also be displayed on the Molalla Farmers Market Facebook page.
